THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A Thomasville man who fatally struck a man on a lawnmower with a pickup truck in April has been charged in connection with the crash.

According to Trooper J.W. Boozer with the State Highway Patrol, 50-year-old Edward Glenn Burcham was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of center.

He received a $10,000 unsecured bond and a court date set for July 10.

Trooper Boozer says Burcham was driving east in the 6900 block of Holly Grove Road around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 when he swerved to miss a dog that ran into the roadway.

Boozer says Burcham’s truck crossed the center line and struck 73-year-old Bobby Wayne Lambert, who was mowing his lawn.  Lambert was struck from behind and thrown from the riding lawnmower.

Burcham, who was not injured in the collision, was traveling an estimated 30 to 35 mph at the time of impact with an original speed of 45 mph, which is the speed limit along the stretch of road.
