Thomasville man dies after being hit by Jeep while crossing the road

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – A Thomasville man died after he was hit by a Jeep while crossing the road.

Mitchell D. Leonard, 64, was pronounced dead Saturday after being airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, according to Thomasville police.

Police said it happened as Leonard was trying to cross Randolph Street at Lines Street in Thomasville at about 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Leonard was struck by a 2006 Jeep Cherokee driven by a 36-year-old man from Wilmington, according to police.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured. Leonard was airlifted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead the following day.

The investigation is ongoing and police have not said if charges are pending.
