THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A Thomasville man was arrested Sunday after a fight between him and his son ended with his son being shot in the shoulder, authorities said Monday.

The incident started shortly before 12:30 p.m. at a home in the 1100 block of Lambeth Street, Thomasville police said.

When officers arrived, they found Phillip Westley Lones, 26, with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder.

Phil Alexander Lones, 48, was then charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, police said. The Loneses fought after Phillip Lones’ girlfriend was assaulted, police said.

Phil Lones also was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with minors present, assault on a female and discharging a firearm within city limits, police said.

Two children were in the home when the shooting occurred, but they were not injured.

Father and son were treated at Thomasville Medical Center, police said. Phil Lones was taken to the Davidson County Jail with no bond allowed, police said.

He is scheduled to appear in court April 30.
