Thomasville family loses home in fire

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Officials said a family lost their home and almost all their possessions in a fire Saturday afternoon in Thomasville.

The blaze was reported at 813 Mary James Ave. around 2 p.m. after a neighbor said his kids spotted smoke. Officials said firefighters had the fire under control within about 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters said the home is a total loss.

Officials said about 25 percent of the house was already destroyed by the time firefighters arrived.

Investigators said they are still trying to figure out the cause of the fire. Officials said the fire originated in a bedroom.
