DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Neighbors in a Davidson County subdivision say several people woke up to find items stolen from their cars Friday.

“They took a cell phone and sports jacket… I believe there was a garage left open overnight and they stole some tools, that sort of thing,” explained Ryan Garner.

Garner recently installed surveillance cameras at his home on Ironwood Drive. They live in the Ledford South subdivision off Highway 109 near Ledford Middle School.

He said they don’t experience much crime so when he saw people posting on the neighborhood Facebook group about the larcenies, he decided to check his overnight camera footage.

“You can see two people, they are walking up to the car across the street from our house. They try to open the doors, but they cars are locked. So then the one [person] splits off and goes up my driveway, the other goes to my neighbor’s driveway.”

Fortunately, Garner’s truck was locked up and the criminals moved on. A car slowly followed the suspects down the street with the headlights off. Garner said it seems like the car picked up the two people closer to the front of the neighborhood.

Neighbors say they did report the thefts and Garner said a deputy was coming to pick up a copy of the surveillance footage Friday. They remind neighbors to lock up their cars and garages overnight, even if you feel safe in your neighborhood.
