Teen arrested in connection with shooting death at Burlington hotel

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A teen is in custody in connection with a shooting at a Burlington hotel Sunday that left one dead and one injured.

Jahmil Deshawn Ingram, 19, of Hillsborough, is charged with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The victims were identified as Raphael Devante Currie and David Israel Williams, both 24 and of Burlington.

Williams died at Alamance Regional Medical Center and Currie was flown to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police said they were called to the Quality Inn hotel at 2444 Maple Avenue at around 2:36 a.m. in reference to gunshots being fired.

Investigators said a large number of people had gathered at the hotel to attend an unveiling of an album release. Police estimated that several hundred people were there.

Officials said the victims were found on the second floor of the hotel with gunshot wounds. A witness told police he heard an argument on the second floor just before the gunshots were fired.

On Thursday around 5:50 p.m., police arrested Ingram at Tanglewood Apartments in Mebane. He was transported to the Burlington Police Department and processed.

Ingram will be held in the Alamance County Jail with no bond.
