HIGH POINT, N.C. — Police have arrested a teen in connection with an alleged sexual assault at High Point Central High School on Wednesday.

Tavio De’Shawn Whitehead, 17, is charged with first-degree forcible rape and assault by strangulation.

On Wednesday at approximately 4:15 p.m., High Point police were called to High Point Central High School to investigate a report of an on-campus assault.

As a result of the investigation, Whitehead was arrested on Thursday and placed in the Guilford County Jail under a $500,000 secured bond.

Guilford County Schools released the following statement on Thursday regarding the incident:

“We are deeply concerned by the incident that occurred at High Point Central yesterday. Our thoughts are with the victim and we are providing ongoing support as needed.  Student safety is our top priority at Central and throughout the district, and we are calling for continued support for the students and school.  This kind of behavior will not be tolerated, and we are working closely with the police in their investigation. In partnership with law enforcement and district administration, HPC will review their safety procedures and protocols.”
