Tasers used on more minority Guilford County students than whites

GREENSBORO, N.C. — School resource officers in Guilford County Schools have used Tasers on students 13 times since 2008.

Eleven of those students were black. Two of them were Hispanic.

About a dozen protesters called on the Guilford County Board of Education this week to do something to eliminate such disparities in student discipline as well as in graduation rates and achievement.

The issue of removing the school resource officers, known as SROs, from schools was not on the board’s agenda Tuesday night.
