DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- Residents in the Tyro community woke up to a swarm of insects Wednesday.

Erin McCloskey, who lives on Carriage Lane, has hundreds of dead mayflies outside her back door.

The bugs landed directly underneath her flood lights which experts say probably attracted them.

Experts with Davidson County's Cooperative Extension say mayflies don't bite or sting and are not dangerous.

They only live for one to two days and appear between the months of May and August, according to officials.
