Teen arrested, charged in Burlington shooting

BURLINGTON, N.C. — The Burlington Police Department has arrested and charged a teenager in connection with a shooting that occurred at 317 Caswell Street on June 20.

Micah Keishaun Cameron, 17, of Chapel Hill, has been charged with attempted murder.

At 6:08 p.m., officers responded to the area of Springdale Apartments on a report of a gunshot victim.

Officers located 21-year-old Jalyn Ferguson in the grass behind the apartment complex suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Ferguson was flown to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill to be treated for his injuries. He’s currently in critical condition.

Cameron was placed in the Alamance County Jail under a $580,000 bond. He received $500,000 for the Caswell Street incident and an additional $80,000 due to outstanding warrants by the Graham police.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.

In an attempt to battle the recent surge in local crime, Burlington police is expected change their patrol schedule to have more officers available during peak crime times. The change is slated to go into effect on July 2.
