GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police arrested Gary Everett, 25, in connection with the killing of Darace Bolton.

Darace went missing in 2016 and his remains were found in 2018 in Brunswick County.

The arrest was made Tuesday morning.

“I was at the doctor’s office taking my daughter to therapy over Darace and I was informed while she was in her session,” said Candace Watkins, Darace Bolton’s mother.

Watkins was the first family member to learn of her son’s death.

Bolton was reported missing Sept. 27, 2016.

In December 2018, deputies found his remains in Brunswick County.

“I always had hope actually up until today. I always had hope that he would one day come through the door,” said Grace Watkins, his aunt.

Bolton spent his final days watching Star Wars with his aunt in McCleansville.

He had lived with her since 2012.

“It’s hard. It’s really hard,” his aunt said.

Greensboro police say this man Everette killed Bolton and dumped his body.

Bolton had a daughter who is now 4 years old.

“She is going to be devastated, we haven’t told her yet,” Candace Watkins said.

The family spent years searching for Bolton, even making trips to his last know location in Greensboro.

“They didn’t tell me anything. It was just like everybody was closed mouthed,” his mother said.

Now they have closure, even if it isn’t he answer they were looking for.

“Knowing that he’s never going to come through this door again. That I will never see him again,” Grace Watkins said.

Everett is being held without bond in the Guilford County Jail facing charges of murder and concealment of death.
