SURPRISE, Ariz. — A suicidal driver intentionally caused a fatal four-vehicle crash in Surprise on Wednesday morning, according to Sgt. Tim Klarkowski with Suprise police.

It happened at the intersection of Litchfield Road and Peoria Avenue at approximately 8 a.m.

The suicidal driver, 19-year-old Keith Johnson, was released from the hospital and booked into the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Police said each vehicle was occupied by one driver who was transported to a hospital.

Margie Yaw-Mehlos, 46, of Surprise, died. She was driving a Volkswagon passenger car.

Johnson was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck and investigators said he intentionally caused the collision in an attempt to take his own life.

Police shut down the intersection for several hours as they investigated.
