SHELBY, N.C. — A week after two deputies were taunted and served tampered food at a North Carolina Zaxby’s, a New York woman stepped up to make a difference, WBTV reports.

Chris Canoutas, the owner of Pleasant Wood Fire Grille, received a surprising call last week from a woman who said she wanted to cater to the entire Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office.

“A lady called and said she wanted to cater the entire Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department,” Canoutas said, according to WBTV.

New York native Nicole Ancker saw the Zaxby’s story and told Canoutas that she came from a long line of law enforcement, so she had to do something.

So the two derived the plan and on Thursday night, Canoutas surprised the deputies with a meal. Ancker, who couldn’t be there to give them the meal, was able to thank law enforcement and speak with the deputies over the phone.

“It just shows you there are great people in this world. There really are. They’re caring. She was truly a blessing,” he said.
