Storms cause significant damage in Rockingham County; thousands still without power

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Thousands of Duke Energy customers are without power in Rockingham County after storms rolled through Wednesday evening.

According to the Duke Energy outage map, around 4,400 customers are without power as of 5:30 a.m. Thursday. At one point, more than 9,300 customers were without power.

Reidsville was hit the hardest.

Down trees and power lines could be found all throughout the city including several on top of homes and cars.

The canopy at the Sparks & Son No. 2 service station, located at 304 S. Scales St., Reidsville, fell over as a result of the storms.

It is unclear when power will be restored. Duke Energy crews are currently assessing the damage, according to the outage map.

No injuries have been reported.
