One airlifted after SUV crashes on I-85 in Lexington

LEXINGTON, N.C. — One person was flown to the hospital after authorities said an SUV blew a tire and crashed, causing I-85 south to temporarily close on Saturday.

Authorities said the wreck happened around 1 p.m. just past exit 91 in Lexington.

Highway patrol officials said seven people were in the SUV and six had minor injuries.

They said the victim who was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center did not have life threatening injuries.

Authorities said that no charges were filed in the crash.

The southbound lanes on I-85 near the scene of the wreck were closed for more than an hour but have since reopened.
