WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The new playgrounds at six Winston-Salem parks won’t be generic. They’ll all have different themes.

Kimberley Park is one of the parks getting a new playground. The city has renovated 11 parks over the past two years with more than $2 million in city funding and a $500,000 grant from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Tim Grant with Winston-Salem’s parks and recreation department said the goal with the themed playground is to create new adventures that spark children’s imagination.

“We wanted to provide different experiences for all of our citizens, so if you visited one and kids got bored with it, you could go to another, completely different playground,” Grant said.

The themes include sea dragons and pirates.
