MEBANE, N.C. — Alamance County deputies are searching for the person who shot a 17-year-old boy Sunday morning at a party in Mebane.
The victim was brought to Alamance Regional Medical Center by someone at the party. He told deputies he was shot while dancing.
“I’m sure someone knows what went on and what happened,” said Cyndy Daye, who lives on the street.
Neighbors tell FOX8 that a pavilion on Christys Lane in Mebane is where teens have parties on the weekends.
“All of the parties that have been going on I never heard of anything happening. And it’s normally calm,” Daye said.
Daye has lived right up the road from the field for 15 years.
She was shocked to learn Alamance County deputies responded to calls about shots fired at a party and to hear a 17-year- old was shot in the leg.
Her niece was there that night with friends and ran during the chaos.
“My mom said ‘well, yeah, they got to running and they lost their cellphones they had to go back afterward and find their cell phones,” Daye said.
A spokesperson with the Sheriffs Office says deputies are having a tough time finding out details about the night because no one is talking.
Daye believes people won’t talk because of fear of retaliation.
“They are very private and they don’t want to get into any trouble or have anybody mad at them, Daye said.
Daye says gun violence isn’t a problem in the area.
She’s not concerned for her safety and she’s sure the kids will continue to party there, including her niece.
“They seem fine and I doubt that they would stop going if they continue to have it,” Daye said.
