MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Sheriff Graham Atkinson says a man was struck by a vehicle during an altercation over auto parts in Surry County.

According to Sheriff Atkinson, the incident took place Thursday morning at a home on Beulah Church Road in Mount Airy.

Atkinson says a man called the sheriff’s office saying a man he had sold a transmission to had come to his home demanding a refund.

“He said he had sold the transmission last week and the man, who he didn’t know, had called and said it didn’t work and he wanted his money back,” Atkinson said. “He told him it was sold ‘as is’ and that he would not give a refund, but the man showed up (Thursday) morning wanting his money.”

Atkinson says the man refused to refund the purchase, after which an altercation took place.

During the altercation, Atkinson says the man who purchased the transmission bit the victim, took his cell phone, broke the phone and then pocketed it.  While leaving the residence, Atkinson says the man also struck the victim with his vehicle.

Atkinson said the victim was checked at the scene by paramedics before he was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.

Deputies are searching for the suspect’s vehicle, which is described as a brownish, 90s model, four-door Chevrolet pickup truck.

Anyone with further information is asked to call the sheriff’s office.
