Sheriff: Caretaker stole $40K from elderly couple in Guilford County

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Guilford County woman is accused of stealing an estimated $40,000 from an elderly couple after being hired as a caretaker. 

Guilford County Sheriff B.J. Barnes said Judy Needham Lunsford, 54, of Gibsonville, was hired by the victims as a caretaker. 

Barnes said Lunsford took about $40,000 from the victims over the course of several months by fraudulently using their bank accounts. 

Lunsford is charged with three counts of larceny by an employee, 11 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, and one count of exploitation of a disabled or elder adult. 

The suspect was arrested Monday and jailed under a $50,000 bond.
