GREENSBORO, N.C. — The city of Greensboro confirmed 1,500 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into a creek on Saturday near Airport Center Drive.
The wastewater discharge lasted for 4 hours due to an accumulation of grease in an 8-inch sewer main.
The wastewater entered Brush Creek, which is a tributary of the Cape Fear River Basin.
The city said the main was “unstopped by using a Jet/Vac to prevent further discharge.”
Several fire hydrants were opened for fresh water to flush the creek, the waste was cleaned up and lime and straw was spread on ground surface areas.
