RALEIGH — So much for compromise. Senate members walked out of budget negotiations Wednesday after making some headway the day before.
The meeting was intended to reach a compromise between House and Senate versions of the budget.
Representative Nelson Dollar (R-Wake) explained the House presentation was going to include speakers, to which Senate members objected. They cited rules stating no one can speak at conference committee if they are non-members.
When Rep. Dollar called on a speaker anyway, all Senate members got up and walked out.
During the second half of the session, which was controlled by the Senate, the senators returned and the meeting resumed.
