RALEIGH, N.C. — U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius is announcing a $200 million grant to train advanced practice registered nurses.
Sebelius made the announcement Monday at Duke University hospital in Durham, one of five selected to receive the grant. The funding will be spread over four years and is provided under the Affordable Care Act.
The five hospitals will use the funding to train nurse practitioners, such as nurse specialists, nurse anesthetists and nurse midwives, who practice primary and preventative care.
The secretary also met with nurse practitioners to talk about investing in the nursing workforce through additional training and support provided by the law.
Gov. Beverly Perdue joined Sebelius to talk about how the new nursing positions will affect North Carolinians.
