DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.– A South Carolina woman accused of trying to kill her three children by driving them into the Atlantic Ocean in a minivan was severely disoriented due to low blood sugar at the time, according to a motion from her attorney.
Ebony Wilkerson, 33, of Myrtle Beach, is charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder and three counts of child abuse.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that Wilkerson’s blood sugar level measured at 44 by paramedics. Assistant Public Defender Craig Dyer says a normal range would be from 70 to 100.
A hearing will be held to discuss Wilkerson’s blood sugar Friday. The judge will also consider whether the mother violated terms of her pretrial release by testing positive for alcohol in an Aug. 6 urinalysis.
