SAN JOSE, Calif. — Working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the San Jose Sharks pulled out all the stops for one of their biggest fans, who suffers with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
Sam Tageson, 18, was informed two weeks ago he would be spending a day with his favorite team, according to NHL.com.
Tuesday morning, Tageson officially signed a one-day contract with the club. The signing featured an appearance by Sharks general manager Doug Wilson and the obligatory media circus.
Tageson got to be involved in all aspects of the Sharks’ daily routine Tuesday, including practicing with the team.
The highlight of the day came on Tuesday evening. Tageson suited up, wearing No. 20, and skated through the shark head and onto the ice with the team prior to their game against the Florida Panthers.
When he was shown on the scoreboard after the puck drop, a teary-eyed Tageson saluted the crowd.
“It’s really awesome. I like it a lot,” Tageson told NHL.com “It’s a once-in-a lifetime experience.”
