Ruffin man charged with attempted murder of nephew

RUFFIN, N.C. — A man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder following the shooting of his nephew on Sunday around 8:20 p.m.

Officers with the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 9900-block of U.S. 158 in reference to a call regarding a gunshot wound.

Police discovered Roger Dale Coltrane, 24, of Ruffin, suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm and upper chest area. He was transported to Moses Cone Hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

Police have charged the man’s uncle, Roger Lee Coltrane, 44, of Ruffin, with attempted first degree murder. He was placed in the Caswell County detention facility under a $500,000 secured bond.

Coltrane is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 11.

An investigation is ongoing.

The Times-News confirmed that Roger Lee Coltrane is the uncle of Roger Dale Coltrane.
