(WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL) — Ruff Housing Dog Daycare and Lodging, based in Winston-Salem, will open a $3 million facility in Greensboro in late 2013.

The company has bought two buildings at 11 and 19 Battleground Court off Wendover Avenue to create a 16,000-square-foot facility. The new location will provide daycare, overnight boarding, grooming and training services.

Samet Construction is the general contractor on the project and Cole Design Associates Inc. of High Point is the interior designer.

Ruff Housing plans to hire 30 to 40 employees. The company provides playroom attendants who supervise dogs in group play and attendants who work 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We are excited to be entering the Greensboro market,” said Kim Vaughn, co-owner of the company with her husband, Roger Vaughn. “Dogs are considered family members and owners want their pets to have the very best care, which includes daily exercise, socialization through group play or individual play with an attendant, overnight boarding, grooming, and training.”

Ruff Housing will have five playrooms with individual outdoor play yards based on the size of dogs. An extra room can be used for specialized groups such as puppies and older dogs.

Overnight boarders have multiple options from individual “bedrooms” to penthouse suites with flat-panel TVs and individual webcams. Dogs can also sleep in a playroom with other dogs and an overnight attendant.

Ruff Housing has two operations in Winston-Salem, one on Witt Street and another on Country Club Road.
