Rowan Co. man who was teacher, Boy Scouts leader charged with indecent liberties with children

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A man who served as a Rowan County middle school teacher and local Boy Scouts leader has been arrested on multiple counts of taking indecent liberties with children.

On July 13, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division began investigating a complaint concerning inappropriate sexual activity by a person that was employed as a teacher at China Grove Middle School and also served as a local Boy Scouts leader.

The incidents allegedly occurred over the last two years. During the course of the investigation, evidence was developed that indicated the incidents involved more then one victim in the pre-teen age range.

On Wednesday, warrants were obtained to arrest James Paul Barringer, 51, of Salisbury.

Barringer was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
