WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Transportation officials in Forsyth County are busy trying to get some work done before the holiday travel season arrives.

Work is now underway at the Business 40 and Stratford Road off ramp at Thruway Shopping Center.

It's an intersection many people know where drivers exiting 40 often have to wait for several minutes to cross the busy stretch of Stratford Road.

Piedmont Federal, across the street, is footing the bill to help move the ramp over and along with a traffic light make the intersection run a lot smoother into their parking lot.

"There is a lot of traffic that goes through this area," said shopper Louis Sanchez. "I think it will help avoid accidents and be easier for citizens."

The Department of Transportation is overseeing the project which is expected to be complete in two weeks.

Next week, transportation crews will start on repairs to the Highway 52 bridge over Interstate 40 in hopes of getting it complete before Thanksgiving.
