BURLINGTON, N.C. — Highway 49 was closed just south of Interstate 40-85 for four hours Tuesday after a wreck involving a logging truck and an SUV.

The wreck happened around 8:35 a.m. at the intersection of Henry Road.

Burlington Police said a woman in a Toyota Rav 4 was trying to turn into the parking lot of Fellowship Baptist Church when a loaded logging truck collided with the vehicle.

Police said the truck driver tried to swerve to the left to avoid a collision, but the two vehicles ended up sideswiping each other.

The truck overturned after hitting a ditch, police said. The truck also hit a vehicle heading northbound, but that driver was not injured, police said.

The driver of the SUV was trapped in the vehicle and was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

The truck driver was cited for failure to reduce speed and improper passing.
