HIGH POINT, N.C. — N.C. Education Lottery officials say a retired Army soldier from High Point has claimed a $1 million lottery prize.
Officials say Ronnie Jackson initially won $40 playing the ‘Extreme Green’ game on Tuesday evening at The Pop Shoppe on Hickswood Road. He then walked back inside store, collected his winnings and purchased a ’20X The Money’ ticket that turned out to be worth $1 million.
“It was crazy,” Jackson said. “I was in disbelief. It didn’t seem real at all.”
Jackson chose the $600,000 cash option, worth $408,003 after taxes, as opposed to receiving $50,000 annuity payments.
He said he may use his winnings to pay off his mortgage or buy a new house.
Officials say one more $1 million top prize remains to be claimed in the ’20X The Money’ game.
