SURRY COUNTY, N.C. -- A man was rescued after falling 40 feet at Pilot Mountain Wednesday afternoon, according to John Shelton, with Surry County Emergency Management.

The fall was reported at 3:15 p.m.

Shelton said a 21-year-old man fell approximately 40 feet from an overlook on the Jomeokee Trail.

The victim is conscious and alert, Shelton said.

The victim was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Shelton said he is in stable condition.
