WENTWORTH, N.C. — A consultant hired by Rockingham County to review its landfill and the proposal to build a new one in Eden is saying the county doesn’t need one.

The Greensboro News & Record reported that a report from the Virginia-based company Gershman, Brickner & Bratton suggests that a private landfill “within less than 10 miles of the existing landfill is redundant.”

The Rockingham County Board of Commissioners plan on hearing the report at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Governmental Center in Wentworth. Commissioners are not expected to vote on the matter.

The report suggested that the current landfill will be able to take more trash for decades without hiring new people or buying new equipment.
