‘Trespasser’ struck, killed by train in Elon

ELON, N.C. — An Amtrak train struck and killed a male pedestrian in Elon on Tuesday afternoon.

Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods confirmed a person was struck and killed by Amtrak train 74 “The Piedmont” at 1:49 p.m. Tuesday.

Elon police identified the man as 22-year-old Malcolm Carnelius Sims.

The fatality happened near Cook Road. Amtrak described Sims as a “trespasser.”

The train came to a stop near the Ball Park neighborhood. Gibsonville and Elon police are on the scene.

That train left Charlotte earlier today en route to Raleigh.
