MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Investigators arrested the man who police say targeted at shot at a social worker in Myrtle Beach on Thursday morning.

Christopher Lee Neal, 42, had been on the run since Tuesday after authorities say he shot at a social worker through her car window in Burlington.

He was arrested with his girlfriend, Latanya Whetsell, 27, who was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon in an unrelated case. Burlington police say Whetsell is the mother of at least one of Neal’s children.

The State Bureau of Investigation alerted South Carolina authorities that Neal planned to head to the Myrtle Beach area. They found the couple there Thursday morning, in the same BMW SUV Neal was driving when police say he shot at the social worker.

Neal and Whetsell were arrested without incident.

Police will bring them back to Alamance County this week, where Neal’s charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
