SALISBURY, N.C. — A registered sex offender was arrested after police said he was sitting outside a public swimming pool watching people with binoculars Monday in Salisbury.

WSOC reported that Perry Quintin Simmons, 48, was allegedly spying on the swimmers from a park bench about 75 feet from the Lincoln Park Pool on Old Concord Road.

Police said the lifeguards immediately called police. He was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice and was sent to jail with bail set at $5,000.

Officials said the incident is a violation of his requirements as a registered sex offender. He was charged with second degree sex offense in 1994, according to the NC sex offender registry.
