Country legend and North Carolina native Randy Travis made a rare public appearance Sunday at the 2015 ACM Awards broadcast, nearly two years after suffering a stroke.

TasteOfCountry.com reported that Travis was in the audience as Lee Brice paid tribute to him with Travis’ hit song “Forever and Ever, Amen.”

“One of the guys I looked up to my whole life,” Brice said of Travis, according to the website.

Travis has been slowly recovering after suffering a life-threatening stroke in 2013.
