WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The city sponsored a “Random Act of Kindness Day” Friday, hoping to inspire people to practice kindness and pass it on.

Larry Bell says someone put money in his meter just after it expired Friday morning.

“It was great. 25 cents is not bad, but it stopped me from having a ticket today. That’s pretty great,” Bell said.

The stranger left a note reading, “You’re the recipient of a random act of kindness.”

“Random Act of Kindness Day” is part of “Compassionate Action Month” which is part of Winston-Salem’s participation in the “International Compassion Games”–a competition between the 20 cities designated as “Compassionate Cities”
