HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. — Law enforcement are calling Monday’s shooting death of a Henderson County toddler a tragic accident, WLOS reported.

Two-year-old Abigail Newman died Monday morning on her way to the hospital after she was hit in the neck by a blast from a shotgun.

The 911 call came in at 9:02 a.m. from the home on Golden Eagle Way.

“Somebody, one of the guns were loaded on the table and I didn’t know it,” the frantic caller said to the dispatcher.

Detectives are still trying to get answers to questions like why was the gun loaded, how did it go off and who or what caused the death of the girl.
