GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A five-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Business 85 sent three people to the hospital and has some questioning whether more should be done to prevent future crashes.

The crash happened near the Vickrey Chapel Road exit in Jamestown just before 7:30 a.m.

It’s a location that brings back painful memories for Jessica Wagner, who crashed her car on Business 85 in June after a driver suddenly crossed into her lane.

She swerved and her car went airborne through the grass filled median.

“We rolled about five times across oncoming traffic,” Wagner said.

Her father Keith says with no barrier in the median, another crash is bound to happen.

“There’s no guard rail, there’s no cable in the middle of the road,” Wagner said. “It’s a dangerous spot in the road.”

Since January, 57 crashes along Business 85 in Guilford County have been investigated by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and High Point Police. Two of those crashes were fatal.

North Carolina Department of Transportation Communications Officer Miracle King says there is a process to determining whether a barrier should be placed in the median. As of July 9, no decision has been made.

None of the accidents along Business 85 have been caused by the road being dangerous, according to Highway Patrol and High Point Police.

Officials say the accidents have been caused by driver error.

“People [should be] making sure they’re paying attention, making sure they’re not distracted by anything in the vehicle, watching the speed limits,” said Trooper Chris Knox.

But Jessica says she was paying attention.

“My phone was off,” she said. “My music was off.”

She hopes something is done soon so someone else doesn’t go through what she did.

“It’s kind of aggravating,” she said.
