HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. — Seven newborn puppies were found tied up in a pillowcase on the Blue Ridge Parkway Friday in Haywood County.

WLOS-TV reported that the puppies are being cared for at the Haywood County Animal Shelter.

“The puppies looked to be only two days old,” said Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation operations manager Debi Slater. “They were cold, wet and hungry. We don’t have the details about who found them, only that they ended up at the county shelter.”

Leyah Pilkington, assistant shelter director, took the puppies into her own home — two females and five males — to kept them warm, dry and fed until they were brought the next day, Sept. 6, to Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation.
