WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Around 33 people protested against the Child Evangelism Fellowship Saturday morning at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem.

The picket was held as the group was hosting its fourth annual Triad Good News Spectacular children’s event.

The group has been criticized across the country for hosting Bible clubs in public schools. Some claim the group targets small children using scare tactics to teach them fundamentalist Christian views.

Protesters said they do not want the group gaining support in our area. They said they should make lesson materials available for the public so parents can view it before sending their child there.

Members of the group said they are surprised the protesters would picket a children’s event.

The group won a Supreme Court ruling in 2001 that gave them the same rights as any other civic group wanting to use school facilities after hours.

They already host Good News Bible Clubs in at least two Forsyth County schools.
