Tractor-trailer overturns on I-40 westbound in Winston-Salem; 2 of 3 lanes re-open

Update — Two of three lanes on Interstate 40 westbound are now open.

The tractor-trailer that overturned appears to have been carrying some kind of plastic medical bags, which are now spread all over the road.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Interstate 40 westbound in Winston-Salem is down to one lane due to an overturned tractor-trailer.

The interstate is down to one lane from the Thomasville Road exit to the U.S. 52 exit while officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department and North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigate the crash.

There's no word on injuries at this point.

It is unclear how long the roadway will be down to one lane.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and to use alternate routes.
