Police: Two arrested in Lexington break-ins

LEXINGTON, N.C. — Police said they arrested a homeless man and a teenager to a series of Lexington break-in that took place in March.

The Lexington Dispatch reported that Dereck Ryan Shumake, 22, homeless, and Timothy Gage West, 17, of Lexington, allegedly broke into the Marathon Gas Station at 1309 S. Main St. and Parker Mart at 817 Cotton Grove Road between March 19 and 20.

Police said they took $300 in tobacco products from Parker Mart and a $300 cash register valued from Marathon.

Shumake is also accused of breaking into a Duke Energy storage facility and taking $100 in copper. He also faces charges of breaking into Top Notch Mobile Home Supply between March 19 and 20 and stealing a $450 cash register.
