BURLINGTON, N.C. — A man was arrested Wednesday night after Burlington Police allege he assaulted two officers and took an officer’s weapon during a traffic stop.

Tarron Trinell Calloway, 25, was arrested after an incident around 6:45 p.m. on Chapel Hill Road near Mebane Street.

Officers were called to the area on a report of a possible drunk driver, police said. Calloway was outside the vehicle when officers arrived at the scene, police said.

As officers approached Calloway, police allege he assaulted two officers and took the weapon from one of the officers.

Calloway tried to fire the weapon at the other officer, “at which time he was fired upon by the officer,” police said in a news release.

Calloway ran into some nearby woods and was arrested shortly after that, police said.

Calloway faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm and assault on a law enforcement officer. He was placed into the Alamance County Jail under a $250,000 bond.
