Police investigating armed robbery at Winston-Salem dollar store

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened Sunday night at a Winston-Salem dollar store.

Two armed men entered the Dollar General, located at 1190 Waughtown St., just before 10 p.m., according to police.

One of the suspects grabbed an employee by the neck and walked her to the office.

Another employee, who was in the back of the store, heard the incident and was able to call police.

The suspects were unable to get cash from the office and both proceeded to the front of the store where they ordered a third employee to open the register.

According to police, the suspects took an undetermined about of money from the register and an employee’s cell phone.

Both suspects fled the store on foot.

Witnesses described the first suspect as a male in his 20s, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, dark tennis shoes, a towel covering his face, a rain poncho and purple latex gloves. The second suspect, who was also in his 20s, was wearing a dark jacket, black and white shoes, red jersey boxers with pockets and a rain poncho.

The investigation is ongoing.
