WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A case involving the discovery a dead woman in a Winston-Salem home late Monday night has been ruled a homicide.

The victim has been identified as 76-year-old Beatrice Caldwell Rorie.

"Miss her already. Just so used to seeing her outside," said Shirley Gibbs a close neighbor of Rorie. "She was an outdoor person, always see her outside working in her garden and every time you see her she would be smiling and giving you that wave."

Police responded to 1501 Longview Drive in reference to an assault, but when they arrived they found a deceased person who appeared to have suffered from blunt-force trauma.

The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed this case is a homicide as the victim died as the result of a fatal stab wound.

"It really puts you at an unease that is indescribable," said neighbor Shantae Graham. "Can't believe that somebody would stoop that low to harm a harmless elder like that, who would of given the clothes off her back and the shoes off her feet."

An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information concerning this case is requested to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department at 336-773-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800.
