GREENSBORO, N.C. – Police have charged a man with murder after a body was found in a wooded area near a Greensboro apartment complex.

Lemuel Lee Harris Jr., 24, of Greensboro, faces charges in connection to the death of 25-year-old William McKinley Spencer III of Greensboro.

Greensboro police said they found Spencer’s body after responding to Georgetown Manor apartments at 3818 Overland Heights at about 4:18 a.m. Saturday.

Somebody at the apartment complex called 911 after a bullet entered their apartment from a neighboring apartment, according to police. The caller was not hurt.

Officers responded and found what appeared to be blood near the entrance of the apartment where the gunshot reportedly came from, according to police.

Police said responding officers were unable to make contact with anyone at that apartment and forced their way inside.

Officers found a crime scene and several people unharmed inside the apartment, according to police. Officers found the body about 60 feet from the apartment in a wooded area.

The suspect has been charged with murder and was placed in the Guilford County Jail without bond.
