Police identify man shot, killed while trying to commit robbery in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police in Winston-Salem have identified a man who was shot and killed while allegedly trying to commit a robbery.

Jonathan Kyron Williams, 25, was killed in a shooting over the weekend, according to Winston-Salem police.

Winston-Salem police said they responded to the 4800 block of Westmoreland Drive at about 7:12 a.m. Saturday in reference to a reported shooting.

Arriving officers found a man suffering gunshot wound. Police said emergency workers took that man to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he died.

The Winston-Salem Police Department described the incident in the following way in a prepared statement:

The preliminary investigation indicates that the male suspect was armed and approached the victims in attempt to commit a robbery. The victims were also armed during this encounter. During this encounter several shots were fired and the suspect was shot. No other persons were found to have been injured.

Police said the investigation is still in the early stages and no other details are currently available.
