DURHAM, N.C. — A body found in the water near Avondale Drive in Durham Monday has been identified as 38-year-old Trinity James Wilkins.

Police said Wilkins, of Durham, was reported missing earlier this month. He was last seen by family members in November.

Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez confirmed Tuesday that his department was investigating the discovery as a homicide, and that the body had been decapitated.

Volunteers cleaning up the pond area during a Martin Luther King Day Of Service event discovered the body floating in the water.
