Police charge Thomasville man with raping 7-year-old girl

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Thomasville detectives have charged a 26-year-old man in connection with the rape a 7-year-old girl.

Detectives were first alerted to the alleged incidents on Aug. 24, 2015, by Davidson County Child Protective Services. Upon completion of a forensic interview and the gathering of other evidence, detectives charged Timothy Vanzant III, of 1311 Blair Street, Thomasville, with three counts of first-degree rape of a child under the age of 13 and three counts of first-degree sex offense of a child under the age of 13.

Vanzant was in the custody of the Davidson County Jail on unrelated charges when he was served with the warrants on Jan. 12. Vanzant received a secured bond of $1.5 million.

The incidents reportedly took place between May 21, 2014, and August 20, 2015, at the Thomasville Inn located at 407 National Highway in Thomasville.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.
